There are many excited children today. Summer vacation has arrived. It’s a time to enjoy a change of pace, travel, campfires and other summer fun.
It’s hard to argue that we live in a hurried culture. We are always trying to get there more quickly and get things done faster. Our lives can be described as trying to fill in empty spaces between our hurried activities.
I do hope this summer provides you with some meaningful leisure time. I also hope that we all learn to live more fully and deeply in unhurried communion with Jesus. So I share this prayer that I discovered in a book titled An Unhurried Life, by Alan Fadling:
Enable us to live unhurried,
resting and communing with you.
Enlighten our eyes to see
whatever your Spirit is showing us.
Open our ears to hear
whatever your Spirit is saying to us.
Quiet our hearts
with your songs of love.
Draw our minds to focus on things above,
and not on empty human concerns.
May that which blesses us,
Become a blessing to others.
We ask this in the name of the Father,
and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
