Youth Breakaway 2 – Uprising
On August 17, over 240 young people, including 13 from Elim, gathered at the Emmanuel Convention Center for their annual summer camp, Youth Breakaway. The theme this year was Uprising. For most people the word uprising has a negativity surrounding it, rebellion, revolt, and resistance. We often picture people who will stop at nothing for the cause that they are fighting for.
I think inside of us all there is an urge to make a difference in life. Deep down in our souls we all desire to accomplish great things. At Youth Breakaway the students and leaders were challenged to start their own uprising, not in a negative sense, but they were challenged to make a positive difference in life. We were challenged to allow the Spirit of God and the love of Christ, that is within us, to propel us into action and change our world.
Throughout the week, both in our morning teaching times and through the evening messages, students were reminded that their lives mattered and that God’s desire was to use them and empower them to be difference makers. Ephesians 2:10 says “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” What a great reminder of God’s love for us all and how he desires to use us for his purposes.
Every year Youth Breakaway proves to be life changing for many students who attend; this year was no different. Throughout the week there were a number of students Baptized in the Holy Spirit, some found their calling in life, others experienced peace from anxiety and so much more! Whether it was participating in the recreation time, the late night milkshakes or the intense time where students meet with God around the alter, Youth Breakaway 2 is certainly a highlight of the year. What a great impact it has had on their lives!
My prayer is that the students across this province, especially our own students, would start an uprising and shake the foundations of this world for Christ.
